Jeffrey L. Shawver

Jeffrey L. Shawver, 66, of Elyria, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 14th, 2026. He was born September 13, 1959, in Avon, and spent the majority of his life in the community he called home, Elyria. Jeff worked in shipping and receiving at Del Lumber until the company’s closure in 2008. Jeff was known for his strong work ethic and dependable nature; he approached both his career and personal life with quiet dedication. Those who knew Jeff knew they were in the presence of an exceptionally curious and intelligent man. Jeff was a lifelong reader with a brilliant mind; he found joy in learning and was rarely without a book. While he was an especially devoted admirer of J.R.R Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, his interest stretched far beyond fantasy. Jeff’s personal library reflected a deep fascination with history, American presidents, military conflicts, animals, religion, and countless other subjects. He possessed a remarkable ability to absorb knowledge and was an incredibly talented writer whose thoughts and stories reflected both his intellect and kind heart. Jeff also found freedom on the open road. He was the proud owner of a custom Harley- Davidson motorcycle, a possession he took great pride in and loved to ride whenever he had the chance. Jeff’s faith was a constant source of strength throughout his life. He shared a close personal relationship with God and placed his trust in Him through life’s joys and challenges. Nature was one of Jeff’s greatest passions. He cherished hunting trips to the woods of Pennsylvania, not because of any trophies he may bring home, but because of the peace he found in God’s creations. Even though he often returned home empty-handed, he considered the experiences blessings, finding beauty in the forest, the wildlife, and the quiet moments spent outdoors. Above all else, Jeff’s greatest love was his Family. His daughters were the center of his universe, and when his granddaughter was born, she joined them in what became an inseparable three-way tie for first place in his heart. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with the people he loved the most. Jeff is survived by his daughters, Lindsey Shawver (Cameron) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Kaitlin Shawver (Benjamin) of Vermilion; his grandchildren, Jessica and Benjamin Jr.; and his sisters, Kimberly Fox (Chuck) of Vermilion, Cathy Shawver of Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth Springer of Wellington. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Louise Shawver, in 2009; his mother, Beverly Shawver-Post (née Bennett), in 2023; and his father, Thomas C. Post Jr., in 2015. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be announced at that time.
