Dennis B. "Denny" Moskal

Dennis "Denny" Moskal, age 79, of Amherst, Ohio, passed away suddenly on August 21, 2026. Born on February 14, 1947, in Lorain, Denny was the son of the late John and Mary (nee Nagy) Moskal. He graduated from Marion L Steele High School in 1965 and attended Kent State University before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps on January 6, 1966 where he served in Vietnam as a machine gunner. As a result of his service he received the Vietnam campaign metal, Vietnam service medal. and the National Defense Service Medal. He reached the rank of sergeant, and was stationed at the Pentagon after leaving Viet Nam. He fought in the battle of Operation Hickory and he and his platoon were the subject of a book called Into the DMZ. He was proud to be a Marine. Following his military service, Denny began a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. He later became a well-known Lorain businessman, owning and operating two popular establishments, Denny's Place and Sneakers. Eventually he returned to law enforcement and concluded his career with the Lorain Police Department, retiring from the detective bureau. Denny will be remembered for many things; especially his independent spirit and determination to do things his own way — better known to those who loved him as "Denny's Way”. Although he often walked his path alone, he was never truly alone. He remained connected to his family, friends, the extended brotherhood of law enforcement and the U.S. Marine Corps, and his faith. Denny also had a love of his Corvette and five Doberman Pincers. He is survived by his sister, Pam (Dennis) Waite, brother Jack (Mary Ann) Moskal and many nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents Jack and Mary nee (Nagy) Moskal; Denny was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Kerecz, Chuck Kerecz, Paula Kerecz Savulak. Family and friends may call on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave. Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Friday August 28, 2026 at 10:15 am in the funeral chapel followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St Joseph Dr, Amherst, Ohio with Father Timothy O'Connor officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 of Elyria will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lofton Henderson Marine Corps League or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
