Felicia Arroyo

Felicia Arroyo (nee Cornejo), 95, of Lorain, died Thursday March 23, 2023 at her home while surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was born March 31, 1927 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain resident. Felicia graduated with the 1945 B Class at Lorain High School. She had worked in the Lorain city schools for Airmark Food Service and at DeLuca’s Bakery. Prior to that, she had worked at US Steel and Mascon Toy. Felicia had been a member of St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, the church Marian Guild, the Guadalupe Society at Sacred Heart Chapel, St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and the Mexican American Citizens Club. She served on the board of the Easter Seals. Felicia enjoyed watching her grandchildren, quilting, dancing, cooking, casino gambling and traveling. She is survived by her children: Donna Arroyo of Lorain, Terry Arroyo of Lorain, Barbara Gillespie (Howard) of Crandall, Texas and Jesse Arroyo of Lorain; grandchildren: Jessica Payton (Brandon), Julie Surace, Teresa Arroyo, Mario Avalos, Erin Kuykendall (Jerry), Jason Gillespie (Amanda), Renae Gillespie, Stephanie Gillespie, Carlos Arroyo and Anthony Arroyo; 24 great grandchildren, sisters: Josephine Onuska of Coral Gables, Florida and Mary Lou Bertram of Mt Shasta, California and brother Martin “Richie” Cornejo (Audrey) of Sheffield Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse Arroyo Jr, daughter Michelle Arroyo, grandsons Mathew Gillespie and Todd Gillespie, parents Martin & Josephine Cornejo (nee Ricco), sisters: Carmen Cornejo, Margaret Garcia, Catherine Ortega and Delores Tenorio and brothers: John, Gregorio, Raymond and Manuel Cornejo. The family will receive friends Thursday March 30, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Additional visitation will be Friday March 31, 2023 from 10:30 am until the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Dr, Lorain. (please meet at the church) The Rev. Neil Walters, pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
