Richard S Schuler

Richard S. “Dick” Schuler, 77, of Vermilion, passed away at his home Tuesday December 27, 2022 surrounded by his family while under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice. He was born in Lorain, Ohio on February 16, 1945 to Lawrence & Gertrude Schuler (nee Skladan) and lived most of his life there until moving to Vermilion in 2021. He attended Lorain schools, served in the US Navy, worked for his father at Schuler Decorators and owned and operated Richard Schuler Painting retiring in 2005. He married Rosemary Lane on November 20, 1965 and together they raised their family of whom he was extremely proud: Robert Schuler (Jennifer), Richard Schuler (Jacalyn), Peter Schuler (Kelly) and Marie Hendry (Craig) and grandchildren: Alex, Emmet, Katie, Abby, Bridget, Corinne, Richard, Jordan, Austin and Jasmin Schuler, Amanda Tehoke, Kirsten Chevalier (Simon), Craig and Keith Hendry and 5 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and children, Dick is survived by his brother Larry Schuler (Sandra), sister-in-law Peggy Goldberg (Michael), many nieces, nephews and cousins with whom he shared a special friendship. He was preceded in death by his parents Larry & Gertrude Schuler (nee Skladan), in-laws Bob & Rose Lane, brother Randall Schuler, grandparents Steve & Julia Skladan (nee Dobos) and Alfred, Rose and Leola Schuler and several aunts and uncles. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, participating in the family’s sporting events, golfing, boating and fishing, traveling and visiting casinos. He was a member of the Red Hat Club and was always proud to participate with his Home Group at the Memorial Day breakfast and of the time he managed the Lorain Firefighters minor league baseball team. He lived life his way. The family will receive friends Thursday December 29, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. The mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday December 30, 2022 at 10:00 am at St Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain. (please meet at the church) The Rev Daniel Divis, pastor of St Mary Catholic Church and the Rev Kevin Conroy, missionary priest in Cambodia, will concelebrate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #32 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
